Stained Glass Commissioning Process
If you would like to commission Norton Stained Glass to produce a stained glass piece for you, please note the standard process we use to ensure your expectations are met.
Discovery Phase
Together we review your project scope including the type of stained glass piece or pieces you want to have constructed, the desired location for your stained glass, measurements, framing options, installation required, etc.
Next the style, colors and texture are discussed. Any color samples, pictures or drawings you may have that help convey what you are looking for are very helpful especially if we will be designing the piece for you.
Finally, time frame for completion and budget will be determined. Should you decide to commission us for your stained glass project we require a deposit prior to developing the design.
Design Phase
Your stained glass design is created using input from the Discovery Phase thus incorporating your tastes, color schemes, styles, desired time frame and budget. We will discuss the types of glass to be used as well as the method of construction which may be with lead came, copper foil or a combination. We will also discuss framing, and installation or shipping options.
We will be happy to create a custom design for your stained glass piece. The cost to develop the design and create the pattern is added into the total project cost.
Once the design is finalized and approved by you, the next step is glass selection. Glass colors and textures can be selected from a wide range of choices, depending on what seems most appropriate for the design. Glass is carefully selected for maximum brilliance, transmission of light, and markings (streaks and blends).
Production Phase
- Glass and all other materials required are ordered.
- A duplicate pattern is made to use during assembly.
- Glass is cut and rough edges are ground smooth.
- The stained glass piece is assembled using lead came, copper foil or a combination.
- Framing and reinforcement is added as required.
- Your stained glass piece is cleaned and polished prior to delivery or shipment.
Pricing
Pricing is determined based on many variables including the size and number of stained glass pieces ordered, design, complexity, framing required, installation, shipping, etc.
Every effort is made to present options that will fit within your budget.
Final payment is due upon delivery.
